World Laughter Day!

We had a great time on Sunday May 5th, 1:00 PM at Hardesty Park in Akron, Ohio as we celebrated World Laughter Day.

What’s a laughing circle? Just what the name implies: a circle of laughing people! Why laugh? The healthful, mood-boosting benefits of laughter have been well documented. Here are just 3 reasons to be part of this celebration:
-it’s fun
-it’s a great energizer
-it’s marvelous for stress relief

World Laughter Day is celebrated in many countries. Held on the first Sunday of May each year, participants believe in the power of laughter to heal, to express happiness, to release helpful endorphins, to improve health and well being.
The Laughing Club concept was created in 1995 by Dr. Maden Kataria and his wife, Madhuri, of India. Clubs are now found worldwide—at healthcare centers, workplaces, assisted living facilities, schools, senior centers, health clubs…anywhere people want more laughter.
Locally, the Laughing Club of Northeast Ohio meets every Saturday at the Cuyahoga Falls Public Library, at 10:00 a.m., and welcomes new participants. Founded by Akron resident Carol Bailey Floyd (330-414-3505; carolbaileyfloyd@gmail.com), the club makes frequent appearances at hospitals, civic and business venues. Recently, for example, the group demonstrated a laughing circle and explained the benefits of laughter at The Laurel Lake Community Center in Hudson, Ohio. Annually, the group cheers on participants in the Akron Marathon. Many of the runners now watch for the Laughing Club contingent, looking forward to the group’s enthusiastic encouragement—and ridiculous headgear (worn specifically for the race) as they rush past.

It’s always nice to have new people come to a laughing club gathering to see what it’s all about. This week we had people stop in who were visiting from Michigan and West Virginia as well as someone new who is local.

Two days ago I made a post about the near 60º temperatures here in NE Ohio. Today we returned to the frigid slap of 12º. That will definitely encourage you to step lively. I made this image of a lamppost and seasonal banner on my walk through the neighborhood this morning.

Today’s temperature was near 60º. That’s quite unusual for late January in NE Ohio. So I got out and made some images that might reflect the warm weather. Here’s a type of tall grass that is planted in various spots around Falls River Square. It kind of looks like wheat.
